Globe Wimax Review Second Look

I made a review on globe wimax recently, check it here. I was doing my usual task, and decided to test my bandwidth, out of the blue and noticed an improvement.

The thing is, my house is under renovation, that needed me to relocate my stuff. So I setup my globe wimax modem outside the house in our nipa hut at the backyard, grabbed my antenna from the roof and just put the antenna pole on the side of the nipa hut roof with no strings attached. It is a temporary location. I have less signal in this location but higher link quality signal, two bars on the blender (globe wimax modem).
Signal strength at 49%, Link Quality(CINR Reuse1) at 19% and Link Quality(CINR Reuse3) at 29%

Got this bandwidth. Hooray! Finally after three weeks of constant calls to customer support. It finally got what i subscribed for.

Better than having this from my previous speedtest.

Here are some screens of several tests I've made.

Wi-tribe.ph

Speedtest.net

I will test this again at my temporary house later to see if this really is not a dream.

just want to ask if you able to play world of warcraft continously, without even a single disconnection from the game?.Because I am also a globe wimax subscriber and a hardcore wow gamer here in the philippines. But I'm losing hope about my globe wimax becuase I keep disconnecting from the game every after 5 or 10 minutes. and my latency balloons to 2000+. I have done all the possible tweaks to stabilize my internet connection but same thing happened if I play WoW.if you have some advise regarding my issue I would highly appreciate. thanks. For the Alliance!

hello anonymous, yes I can play WoW with latency 200-400ms, I never experienced any disconnect issues. I play on Alexstrasza and Coilfang.

How long have you been a subscriber of globe wimax? This issue is possible due to Globe's procedure on Wimax installations, regardless of your signal strength, bandwidth has nothing to do with it. Link quality is the factor that makes your connection seamless. on this article notice i have low link quality, but still i randomly encounter any disconnect issues.

From other forums i have searched on the net, there are issues regarding a newly installed globe wimax connection having disconnect issues. this is because (maybe) has something to do with your account not yet properly setup on globe's datanet server. have a technician visit your house, instruct him to give your modem's MAC address to the server. to have it properly configured.

another issue is, your router setup, sometimes it affects the latency, currently i have a wireless access to the modem thru tp-link router. i configured my router as an AP with its DHCP disabled, having the modem to handle IPs. i have tested to work for me, and much faster than having it as a router with workstations on the 192.168.0.X range. (later I will post articles how to configure your wireless router as an access point)

Hope this helps.

hello friend, i've been a subscriber of globe wimax for almost a month now so i would assume that my account was already on their database. But regarding with my playtime on world of warcraft it's still the same. I already did something on my BM622 modem ( changing the frequency of my scanset ) as what i've read on the globe wimax forum from tipidpc.com it helps a bit on my internet speed but nothing on my world of warcraft.Regarding with the router issue, well i think its not an issue becuase i don't have a router :D. Most of my friends told me that wimax or wireless internet is not ideal in playing online games specifically world of warcraft because of some factors that might affect the transmission of the signal.Btw, i play on Aggramar and sometimes garrosh server, I do have 4 max toons, 3 from aggramar and 1 on garrosh, If not with this f****** internet connection I would've cleared ICC 10/25 man raid months ago.

hello, i understand. but are you getting or hitting your subscribed speed yet? your problem might have been link quality, i did however experienced that disconnect thing, as fas as i can remember, that was a few days only when i got my installation. but after that, i didnt have disconnect issues, latency is good, ingame around 200-400ms. no lag issues.

which package are you subscribed with? 500kbps or 1mbps? i have no idea about the 512kbps package, since i subscribed for 1 mbps outright. but for my first 3 weeks im only getting 600kbps. after they reconfigured my account, everything is fine..

do not assume that globe will do it right away or voluntarily, you really need effort complaining about this, i have friends who have wimax also, all have the same scenarios, better service after that dreadful 3-4 weeks of constant calls to customer service.

i have one friend who already discontinued the service, and have been disconnected for 2-3 weeks, globe then calls them up and say do not continue with the disconnection and they will fix it. after a few minutes, service is back up and hitting more than 1 mbps, they too are online gamers, after that they have good service. they also run 10-20 bots and downloading at the same time, speed test hits 600kbps, with active downloads and bots.

the thing about us with wimax is we can't use opendns. thats the sad part.

i didn't tweaked my scanset, or anything. but i did tweaked my external antenna pointing to the right position.

my bandwidth is still the same with no antenna, just the modem on a different house.

my take, its usually not on your setup but with globe really.

btw its not on the database from the customer service point of view, but the datanet servers, the technicians knows to call directly to the guys at the server who can easily punch in your Modem's MAC address for proper configuration.

Hello again friend..after reading your reply,I called globe service center immediately and speak out all my concerns then the CSR said technician will be coming to you within 24 hours, boom! Technician came as what they promised, but I was so disappointed on what the technician did. They only browse the internet and checked my internet speed, after that they open the the modem configuration then they found out I have a good signal strength, CINR and RSSI. but they don't know how to fix my unstable internet speed.I said to them I am not wanting the full 1mbps speed, all I need is at least 70% of my subscription speed and a STABLE internet connection. Then the technician called someone from globe and said to verify my account and he gave a number which I don't have any idea what that was, then the technician said : Sir, wait for 24 to 48 hours you will notice that there will be a change in your internet speed, I said OK ill wait. BUT AFTER 48 HOURS OF WAITING IT GOT F****** WORST TO THE POINT I CANT EVEN DO SPEEDTESTING BECAUSE THE SAID PAGE CANNOT BE OPENED.I TRIED ANOTHER PAGE AND IT TOOK ME AGES TO SEE THE CONTENT! what the F! (sorry burst of emotion). And I only have one OPTION left, that is to get another ISP Asap..hehe

hehe, thats okay i do understand how that feels. the reason is you are bandwidth capped from the server, you should have told the technician to call up the server to have your Modem's MAC address to be checked out on the server, what number did he gave you? is it a phone number? or complaint number?

if its a phone number you should try calling it.

do you still have the box of your modem? kindly check if the serial numbers are the same. sometimes naughty technician's replace the modem without the customer's idea. i don't know why, i read it somewhere from another blog regarding modem switching.

if you can still manage to get another technician invited over, tell him to call up the datanet server to reconfigure your MAC address and account.

This is what I hate about globe, i am a digitel subscriber before switching to globe, it works when things are slow, i always tell the tech guys to call up the server and reconfigure. and they always did.

but on globe wimax, the girl from the server talked to me after talking to the technicians, i confirmed the slowness, after a few minutes i got a whopping 1.20 mbps from 3 different test sites and multiple servers at speedtest.net, also try wi-tribe.ph/index.html for a different speed test tool

patience is the key here, we all know that everything here in the philippines services sucks at some areas.

i hope you get it fixed.lol

o there is another way, have it disconnected formally, tho you will be no internet for about 2-3 weeks. another department will call you and dare you that if they cant give you your 1mbps, continue to disconnect.lol

it worked with my friend.

that must be an isolated case. please read the comments above.

To those who complain about their reduced banwidth after a while.probably they have reached the maximum data allocation..there's no such thing as unlimited internet. You are given lets say 30GB of data per month. Once you reach this allocation your banwidth will be reduced to dialup speed until your next billing period...i hope this helps... I used to work with globe before

hello dreamweaver, thank you for this fact. i noticed this limit thing, and from another post i read from a forum regarding globe's fine print.

or the best thing to say is, i hope globe gets a new batch of customer service representatives? or retrain their agents? or replace the person incharge of quality of service?

i'm having a good service with globe wimax, bandwidth and consistency is good, the only thing that sucks is their CSRs. =D
